Abstract

The description of objectives, procedures, difficulties, activities and results of this project outlines new ways to incorporate student exchange programmes into language courses at secondary commercial schools. The interdisciplinary and task-oriented method of teaching and learning applied is based on a communicative approach towards language acquisition and involves a “partial immersion” of students into most different real-life situations: the students have to prove themselves in their parts as members of multicultural teams. The project thus succeeds in creating environments suitable for language acquisition and strongly supports key qualifications, tasks and skills laid down in the curriculum (creativity, responsibility, self starting qualities, teamwork, cooperative learning, strategies of problem solving, learning by doing and daring).
